Gor Mahia's Gad Mathews shines in an 8-0 friendly win after recovering from surgery, raising hopes for a strong league performance.

Gor Mahia gloveman Gad Mathews made a triumphant return to the starting XI on Saturday as he featured for his club in a friendly match against Kahawa United.

The 27-year-old shot-stopper, who had been sidelined due to a minor surgery according to head coach JohnathanMcKinstry, contributed to his team's commanding 8-0 victory.

Mathews, a key figure in Gor Mahia's squad, was included in the first half lineup, which scored three goals. Rodgers Ouma, Joshua Onyango, and Lloyd Kavuchi were the goal scorers, providing a solid foundation for their team's performance.

McKinstry, opted to field a fresh lineup in the second half, with goalkeepers Caleb and Kevin Omondi taking turns to guard the net.

The changes did not slow down K'Ogalo's momentum as they netted four more goals, sealing their impressive win.

In the second half, Benson Omala showed his goal-scoring prowess by bagging a brace, while Austin Odhiambo, Geoffrey Ochieng, and Paul Ochuoga also found the back of the net.

Mathews had been sidelined for a significant portion of the season after undergoing a minor surgery in mid-August. The surgery required an eight-week recovery period, causing the goalkeeper to miss the initial matches of the season.

Many fans had hoped for his return in the recent Mashemeji Derby, but the coach deemed him unfit at the time.

Gor Mahia fans can look forward to Mathews' full return on Saturday, October 21st when the club faces Tusker FC in their matchday seven of the league.

So far this season, Gor Mahia has maintained an impressive unbeaten record, securing three wins and sharing the spoils in three matches.
