Kenyan-British striker Micah Obiero's heartbreak as Wealdstone falls 2-1 to Gateshead in a National League thriller, despite his spirited efforts

Kenyan-British striker Micah Obiero Obonyo graced the pitch for 87 minutes as his side, Wealdstone FC, succumbed to a 2-1 loss against Gateshead at the Gateshead International Stadium on Tuesday night.

The son of former Gor Mahia defender Aggrey Obonyo had a significant role in the game, playing for 87 minutes before being substituted.

Gateshead's late comeback left the Wealdstone faithful in disappointment. Wealdstone supporters, a dedicated group of 54, had reason to cheer when Tarryn Allarakhia gave their team a 73rd-minute lead.

However, their hopes were dashed when Connor McBride, with two goals to his name, orchestrated a comeback for the hosts in the closing minutes of the game.

Micah Obiero Obonyo displayed his technical prowess throughout the match, making significant contributions to his team's offensive efforts.

His substitution with three minutes left in the game was met with mixed emotions, as fans recognized his efforts on the pitch.

The journey for this talented forward began when he joined the Town Academy in 2016. Prior to that, Obiero had a successful trial season with another London-based academy, XYZ.

During his time with the Town Academy, he honed his skills and spent the majority of the 2017 and 2018 seasons playing for the Under 18 side, where he netted an impressive eight goals in 19 matches.

In 2019, Obiero emerged as the top scorer for the Under 18 side, solidifying his reputation as a rising star in British football. He also left his mark on the FA Youth Cup, finding the back of the net and showcasing his potential on a larger stage.

His talents did not go unnoticed, and in a significant move, he joined Huddersfield Town before making a loan move to Carlisle United in 2021. He then switched to Boston United.

In August 2022, he made the move to Wealdstone, where he continued to make strides in his football career. His performance in the match against Gateshead further cemented his position as a promising talent to watch.
