Gent defender Torunarigha believes this is just the start after finally debuting for the Nigeria Super Eagles after ditching Germany.

KAA Gent defender, Jordan Torunarigha, has reacted to his decision to represent Nigeria after a moment of excitement and pride.

Torunarigha finally made his international debut for the Super Eagles in the laboured 3-2 win against Mozambique on Monday.

The Nigeria-born defender was one of nine changes made by head coach, Jose Peseiro, to the team that played 2-2 against Saudi Arabia on Friday.

Torunarigha and Nigeria

As reported by Pulse Sports Nigeria, the 26-year-old centre-back decided to represent Nigeria earlier this year.

After considering his options, Jordan Torunarigha, a defender for KAA Gent, has opted to declare for the Super Eagles of Nigeria rather than Die Mannschaft of Germany.

The defender, who had declined an initial move to play for the country in 2018, made the switch after ‘a lot of consideration’ and talks with the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.

Torunarigha’s choice saw him follow in the footsteps of his father, Ojokolo Torunarigha, who also played for the Super Eagles before he moved to Germany.

Ojokojo Torunarigha, a former Nigerian international who played for the Super Eagles squad in the 1990s, is the father of Jordan.

After a process that began five years ago, the defender finally made his debut in the five-goal thriller against Mozambique.

He started and finished the encounter with Kenneth Omeruo as his partner on a momentous occasion that marks the start of his international journey with the African giant.

After the game, the excited Torunarigha took to his Instagram page to celebrate, describing his debut as a moment of pride.

“Really proud and happy about my debut for the @ng_supereagles! Just the beginning!” he posted on his social media.

Torunarigha’s choice to represent Nigeria remains a source of pride for Nigerians and despite the Super Eagles conceding two goals against the Mambas, his performance on the day ensured that fans are eager to see more of him in the colours of the Eagles.
