KCCA FC have confirmed to the world that they will take part in the CAF Confederation Cup.

A statement from the club Friday evening ended all doubts that surrounded Uganda's second representative in continental football.

Club CEO Anisha Muhoozi had earlier told Pulse Sports in an exclusive interview that they were still contemplating whether to take up the slot.

"For one to qualify for the group stages, three ties totalling six games have to be played before one reaches the money bracket," Muhoozi previously told Pulse Sports.

"So, the associated costs and the lack of a home ground are part of why we have mixed feelings," she added.

The CEO, however, appreciated the benefits of playing continental football.

FOOTBALL Who is the next KCCA FC coach?

Abdallah Mubiru, currently at Mbeya City in Tanzania, and Sam Ssimbwa, who has parted ways with Kitara. The jobless Mike Mutebi and Jackson Mayanja, who took charge of the last part of the season after the resignation of Morley Byekwaso.

"We do not negate the exponential benefits of CAF, and as a club, this is a space we always desire to be."

That was before a concrete decision was made, but the club, using their social media handles, communicated on Friday: "This is to inform all our stakeholders that #KCCAFC has today, sent in its confirmation to FUFA confirming participation in the CAF Confederation Cup for season 2023/24."

The communication, therefore, confirmed Uganda's representatives in next season's CAF competitions.

Startimes Uganda Premier League and Uganda Cup winners Vipers SC will carry Uganda's flag in the CAF Champions League, while KCCA have the chance to play in Africa's second-tier competition.

Ideally, Uganda's slots are taken by the league winners, who qualify for the CAF Champions League and the winners of the Uganda Cup, who take the Confederation Cup slot.

But with Vipers winning both trophies this past season, KCCA, who finished second in the League, have the opportunity to take up the slot.

KCCA's most significant challenge now will be making a final decision on the next manager before the start of their preseason in preparation for both domestic and continental football.

Jackson Mayanja's contract will expire at the end of June, and the club is in a race against time to make a final decision on who the next manager will be.

Mike Mutebi, Abdallah Mubiru, Sam Ssimbwa and Mayanja himself are some of the names that have been mentioned in the corridors as candidates to take up the role.

KCCA's performance on the field will have to improve significantly for them to replicate the kind of performances they had in the Champions League and Confederation Cup.

The club has yet to lift silverware since winning the CECAFA Kagame Cup in 2019.
