Deadline day transfer confirmed as Sabitzer joins the first team

Premier League giants Manchester United have revealed that deadline day signing from Bayern Munich, Marcel Sabitzer will wear the number 15 jersey at the club.

Eriksen’s injury opened the door for Sabitzer

Sabitzer joined in the final minutes of the January transfer window as cover for the injured Christian Eriksen, even though manager Erik Ten Hag had hinted that there would be no replacements.

Eriksen was ruled out for three months after suffering an injury against Reading, and Sabitzer’s six-month loan would be seen as the perfect arrangement to give Sabitzer more playing time without a long-term commitment from the club which is what Ten Hag wanted.

Sabitzer will wear the same number as another quite famous Manchester United January signing, Nemanja Vidic.

Vidic joined Manchester United in January 2006 and spent eight years with the club, winning five Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League in 2008 on his way to becoming a legend at the club.

Sabitzer looking to return to the top

Sabitzer is unlikely to have that kind of impact in his six-month stint but the quality he brings to Manchester United’s midfield is indubitable.

Sabitzer was one of the most renowned midfield names in world football before his move to Bayern, but he has struggled to make a similar impact in Bavaria as he did in Leipzig.

Before his move to Manchester United, he had started only 11 matches for Bayern from a possible 27 and was only used sparingly, leading to concerns about his happiness at the club.

Sabitzer will be hoping to earn more game time in Egland than he did with Bayern in a bid to return his reputation and name to their former glory.
