Wafula started his topflight career at Chemilil Sugar in the Kenya Premier League in 2014 before moving to Gor Mahia, where he won six trophies.

Mbarara City has shown their strong intent to fight for their StarTimes Uganda Premier League stature this season with the signing of Uganda Cranes defender Innocent Wafula from KCCA FC.

The left-back-cum-winger has re-joined the Ankole Lions on a two-year contract that will tie him at the club until 2025.

The club announced Wafula’s capture on Tuesday night after completing the transfer details.

Wafula previously played for Mbarara City in a short-term deal in the second part of the 2020/21 season.

“Mbarara City Football Club is delighted to confirm that Wafula Innocent Esimu has joined the Den on a two-year year from KCCA FC; Welcome back Home Wafula,” Mbarara City posted on X, formerly Twitter.

The defender started his topflight career at Chemilil Sugar in the Kenya Premier League in 2014 before moving to Gor Mahia in Nairobi.

He stayed at the club for four seasons during the best times of his career ever, winning three league titles and two Kenyan Super Cups.

Wafula made his international debut for Uganda Cranes in September 2021 in a goalless draw against Mali during in the failed 2022 World Cup Qualifiers.

He joins the Wasswa Bbosa-coached side as their sixth signing ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The club has already signed Yunus Sibira, Magumda Bakali, Pius Kagwa and Joseph Akandanwaho.
