Meticulous planning and unwavering execution lead to victory for the Vihiga-based outfit.

Vihiga Queens' head coach, Charles Okere, expressed his elation following his team's resolute 1-0 victory over AS Kigali in their second Group B encounter at the Philip Omondi Stadium in Kampala, Uganda, on Wednesday.

The well-fought win propelled Vihiga into the semi-finals of the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers, igniting a wave of jubilation among the team's supporters.

Bertha Omita's finely executed goal in the first half proved to be the match-defining moment, a testament to Vihiga’s preparation and determination on the pitch.

Coach Okere beamed with pride as he addressed the press after the match, highlighting the meticulous planning and unwavering execution of strategies by his players.

“I am happy that my players followed instructions to the latter. We planned this very well in training and they executed it on the pitch," Okere exclaimed.

“AS Kigali is a very strong, very tactical side but at the end of the day we are happy that we won against them,” Okere emphasised, acknowledging the tough challenge his team had overcome.

The victory was even sweeter given the strengths that AS Kigali possessed, making the triumph a remarkable achievement for Vihiga Queens.

“We planned for them because they have a speedy attack, power, and skills, and they have sharp strikers. So we decided to close the spaces and attack when we get opportunities,” Okere disclosed.

This victory was preceded by Vihiga Queens' impressive 3-1 triumph over New Generations of Tanzania in their opening qualifying match on Sunday.

Meanwhile, JKT Queens, another Tanzanian outfit, has mirrored Queens' feat, securing six points and a place in the semi-finals after prevailing over New Generations earlier on Wednesday.

With Vihiga and JKT Queens, standing atop their group with six points each, all eyes are now set on their impending clash.

The final group stage match between the two semifinalists is scheduled for Saturday, promises to be a decisive contest that will determine the ultimate victor of Group B.
