Currently, they sit fifth with 38 points after 20 matches. They are six points adrift of leaders Kitara FC,  but have played three games fewer.

Champions Vipers SC will push the hunt for the 2023/24 Uganda Premier League championship with a St Mary's Stadium, Kitende affair against UPDF FC on Friday.

The six-time UPL champions will be keen on making it successive victories in the league after a comfortable 2-0 win over URA FC last time out.

Three points against the struggling UPDF  could lift Vipers up to second, pending results elsewhere.

Currently, they sit fifth with 38 points after 20 matches. They are six points adrift of leaders Kitara FC,  but have played three games fewer.

Kitara suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of NEC FC, while second-placed SC Villa drew one-all with Busoga United on Thursday.

In Vipers's most recent game against UPDF, they smiled to a narrow 1-0 win, courtesy of defender Livingstone Mulondo.

However, assistant coach Richard Wasswa expects hugely stout opposition from the Army side.

"It's not going to be an easy game, because they are also fighting for points given the stage of the season."

"But, we shall not just lay our hands. We are going to fight and count on our home advantage to get all the points."

Last season at the St Mary's Stadium, Vipers thrashed UPDF 4-0, thanks to a Yunus Sentamu hattrick and a Rogers Adriko own-goal.
