The switch to the Hyundai i20 marks a significant change for Mangat, who had experienced a series of misfortunes in previous events while driving the Mitsubishi Evo X.

Three-time Ugandan rally champion Jas Mangat is gearing up for a gleeful return to full competitive mode this year, and his sights are firmly set on chasing the African Rally title with his Hyundai i20.

In a recent rally event at Festino, Mangat's skillful navigation of the Hyundai i20 rally2 car left spectators yearning for more.

Despite his impressive performance, Mangat remains grounded, emphasizing that there is still much to learn as he adapts to his new vehicle.

"Everything is new to us," Mangat admitted in an interview with Hapasport before adding. "We need much more mileage, and we believe that we will be ready before Kigali."

Ugandan champion Yasin Nasser holds the advantage in the ARC fight on 78 points after four rounds, taking a significant step closer to the ARC title with a second-place finish at the Burundi International Rally.

Nasser leads compatriot Jas Mangat, who is second on the championship with 63 points, and Kenya’s Karan Patel in third on 60 points. He is trailing 15 points behind the championship leader, Yasin Nasser.

The new vehicle brings renewed hope for success on the rally circuit. "At the moment, it is not about the ARC; we need mileage, and it is all about that," Mangat asserted.

Mangat expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming challenges, stating, "We are back. Still not at 100 percent, but the car is in our hands, and we will be back."

Mangat, a three-time Uganda National Champion, is still in chase of his first continental title after missing out on one in 2013 following a grueling battle with Zambian Jassy Singh.

One notable change for Mangat as he heads to Rwanda for the next championship rounds is the absence of his longtime co-driver, Joseph Kamya.

Instead, French co-driver Escatefigue Jules is expected to take the navigator's seat, as Mangat looks to continue his pursuit of rally glory with his trusty Hyundai i20 by his side.
