Uganda has two tracks which have been utilised for motocross often. At Busiika, the riders are treated to a sandy challenge, while the Garuga truck is a hardpack surface.

Riders will be thrown into uncharted territory when the National Motocross Championship revs off for its second round at the E-Villas track, Kalisizo in greater Masaka on March 5.

The event, organized by Southern Motor Club, will feature a new track which is expected to test the riders with new challenges never faced before.

Uganda has two tracks which have been utilised for motocross often. At Busiika, the riders are treated to a sandy challenge, while the Garuga truck is a hardpack surface.

But at Kalisizo, the challenge will be more hilly which will put more emphasis on how the riders attack the jumps and utilize the table tops to their advantage.

Clerk of Course, George Ssemakula explains that the hilly track is the first of its kind in Uganda, with its design, is aimed at ensuring that the riders are ready to compete internationally and tackle inclined and hilly tracks.

“We have designed a track which will bring the best out of the riders on the day," Ssemakula told Daily Monitor.

“This track is not like the others of Busiika (sandy) and Garuga (hardpack). This one is hilly and it is the first of this kind in Uganda," he added.

Up to 76 riders all the way from the Pee-Wee class to the MX1 and Veteran riders are expected to grace the event that seeks to revive the sport in the area.

Two Kenyan riders have already confirmed their participation, adding spice to the challenge.

Masalule Kituyi ‘Massa’ returns to Uganda and will hope for another successful trip back to the Pearl of Africa after taking victory over the Ugandans in the MX2 class last December during the FIM Africa Central African Motocross Challenge.

Massa is expected to attempt the full 2023 National Motocross Championship 2023 starting with the race at Kalisizo. He will face the challenge of the Omar Brothers Ali Omar and Wazir Omar.

Meanwhile, Kigen Mutuma is set to renew his growing rivalry with Ugandan top seed Miguel Katende and his brother Johnathan Katende.

Kigen wants to beat the Katende brothers at their home ground and avenge Katende’s victory over him in Kenya at the start of the month.
