Having led her Prisons team to clinch the league title this season and finishing as the top scorer with an impressive 791 goals, Namulumba has proved herself as a force to be reckoned with.

Goal Shooter Christine Namulumba has set her sights on a new challenge – securing a coveted spot in the She Cranes national netball team for the upcoming Netball World Cup.

Having led her Prisons team to clinch the league title this season and finishing as the top scorer with an impressive 791 goals, Namulumba has proved herself as a force to be reckoned with.

Her recent trip to Kenya saw her contribute significantly to Prisons' commendable third-place finish.

Namulumba has joined the She Cranes training camp at Kamwokya Stadium, where she aims to fine-tune her skills and compete fiercely for a place in the final squad.

With the Netball World Cup set to take place in Cape Town, South Africa, from July next year, Namulumba wasted no time in immersing herself in the She Cranes camp at Kamwokya.

Her primary goal is to further enhance her skills and secure a spot in the final squad bound for South Africa.

"I am fully committed to my training, as my ultimate aim is to qualify for the Netball World Cup,” Namulumba declared, exuding confidence in her abilities.

I believe in my potential to contribute to the team's success in South Africa. I will continue to put more effort into my training as many that I aim to qualify for the world championships.”

“Deep down I know I have the potential to take me to South Africa,” she added.

Namulumba’s arrival settles worries around their shooters, where they have been left thin following the withdrawal of team captain, Peace Proscovia and Stella Oyella.

Unfortunately, both Proscovia and Oyella suffered injuries, and were subsequently ruled out of the World Cup.

Proscovia and Oyella join Joan Nampungu, Jessica Achan and Sandra Nambiringe as the other players to miss the World Cup in Cape Town.

While there are also growing concerns over the potential absence of Mary Nuba Cholhok.

In an effort to address the void left by Proscovia and Oyella, coach Fred Mugerwa has called upon Mercy Batamuliza, a skilled goal shooter from KCCA, to join the team camp.

Additionally, Mugerwa has made the strategic decision to reconsider defender Hannisha Muhamed Nakate for shooting duties, which was her original role before he turned her into a keeper.

The She Cranes have dedicated themselves to rigorous training over the past month in preparation for the tournament.

However, their preparations have been marred by the lack of suitable accommodations, adding additional challenges to their journey towards netball glory.

Despite these setbacks, the team remains determined to overcome obstacles and deliver a standout performance on the global stage.

The She Cranes currently hold the eighth position in the world rankings. This will be the fourth time that Uganda has participated in the World Cup. 1979, 2015 and 2019. The last time, he finished seventh and is still the best.
