Denis Onyango, the former captain and goalkeeper of the Uganda Cranes, firmly believes that he continues to represent the face of Ugandan football, even after retiring from international football in 2021.

During a casual phone call on the NBS Soccer Lounge on Thursday evening, Onyango confidently asserted his position as the embodiment of Ugandan football.

In his own words, he stated, "Uganda mulinamu omusambi omu," which loosely translates to "In Uganda, there is only one player."

This was after TikToker Tasha Michie who boasts over 400K followers and over 4 million views on TikTok, was asked to name a Ugandan footballer she knew. Without hesitation, she responded, "Onyango."

Despite retiring from international football after a dedicated service of over 16 years, Onyango's impact and influence remain unparalleled.

Onyango achieved remarkable feats, including being named the 2016 African Footballer of the Year based in Africa.

This was after he won the 2016 CAF Champions League, Onyango has also earned a spot in the CAF Best XI as a goalkeeper thrice in the last decade.

Furthermore, he captained the Cranes to the 2019 edition of Afcon in Egypt.
