‘A must at that time’ - Iwobi's former manager claims he regrets letting Super Eagles star leave

Everton manager Sean Dyche has acknowledged that he was hesitant to allow Alex Iwobi to leave Goodison Park.

Iwobi moved from Arsenal to Everton in 2019 for a fee worth £28 million and spent four years at the club.

The midfielder made 140 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing 16 assists before leaving the Toffees in 2023.

The Super Eagles star played a key role in Everton's Premier League campaigns, particularly in the 2021–22 and 2022–23 seasons.

Dyche speaks on Iwobi’s sale

Dyche has revealed the reason behind the sale of Iwobi to Fulham and claimed he regret the decision to let him go.

According to Liverpoolworld, Dyche said, “It was a very good deal for the club. I thought he was an excellent servant certainly in my time here, enjoyed having him around the place.

“He was a joy to work with, a very good player in my opinion. Not one I wanted to lose but needs must at that time. It was a good fee for a good player.”

Iwobi has flourished since joining Fulham, making 43 appearances for the London team and tallying seven goals and three assists.

The attacking midfielder also scored Fulham's only goal against Dyche’s team and his former club Everton in a 1-1 draw. 

The Cottagers have 11 points from their first eight Premier League games, which puts them in 10th place on the league table.
