AFCON 2023: South Africa goalkeeper Ronwen Williams says their defenders are ready for Nigeria

With the Super Eagles' trio Moses Simon, Victor Osimhen, and Ademola Lookman being instrumental in their journey to the semis, the spotlight was on Williams to gauge South Africa's preparedness for this high-stakes duel.

The defensive prowess of South Africa has been nothing short of remarkable, boasting four consecutive clean sheets that have silenced their opponents. 

This resilience at the back has been a cornerstone of their campaign, setting up a tantalizing clash against Nigeria's offensive might. 

Williams, in his calm demeanor, emphasized the collective spirit and the defensive solidity that has defined their path so far. "Definitely. 

We are looking forward to the challenge. It's going to be tough but we've been facing similar players throughout the tournament and I think our defence has been rock solid," he affirmed as reported by Allnigeriasoccer.

Despite Nigeria's edge on paper, including their historical upper hand in AFCON encounters against Bafana Bafana and their status as the tournament's highest-ranked team remaining, Williams and his squad are undeterred.

"We have defended extremely well as a team. It's not about me, it's about the team. We pride ourselves in our defending, you can see our strikers assist us. 

"The back four has been amazing throughout the tournament so we know it's going to be a tough challenge but one that we are looking forward to," Williams stated.
