Afcon 2023: Tanzania Suspends Manager Adel Amrouche

The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has suspended manager Adel Amrouche following an eight-match ban imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

This disciplinary action comes in the wake of remarks made by Amrouche, which were met with a complaint from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (RMFF).

According to BBC, the decision to suspend Amrouche was influenced by his comments criticizing Morocco's influence within the CAF.

These remarks were made in the context of the Africa Cup of Nations 2023, where Tanzania faced Morocco in their opening match. The game, which ended in a 3-0 defeat for Tanzania, saw the team playing with 10 men after Novatus Miroshi was sent off.

In response to Amrouche's comments, the CAF disciplinary committee issued an eight-match ban and a $10,000 fine to the coach. Following this, the TFF made the decision to suspend Amrouche, distancing the organization from his statements.

TFF President Wallace Karia highlighted the TFF's disagreement with Amrouche's comments, emphasizing the federation's belief in CAF's unbiased procedures.

With the suspension of Amrouche, the TFF has appointed Hemed Suleiman Ali as the interim coach, with assistance from Juma Mgunda.

This change in leadership comes as the Tanzanian national team, also known as the Taifa Stars, prepares for their upcoming matches in the tournament.

Adel Amrouche, appointed as Tanzania's coach in March 2023, has a notable coaching history. He has previously managed teams in Equatorial Guinea, Burundi, Kenya, Libya, and Botswana.
