AFCON U20: Why Mariga Believes Rising Stars Can Fulfil World Cup Dream in Cairo
FKF Vice President McDonald Mariga believes the Kenya U20 national football team, Rising Stars, have a chance to fulfil their World Cup dream despite being drawn in a tough group.
Kenya find themselves in the 'Group of Death' with Nigeria, Morocco, and Tunisia following a repeated draw.
However, Mariga believes the Kenyan youngsters have what it takes to go toe-to-toe with the football powerhouses.
Why Mariga Has Faith in Rising Stars
The former Kenyan international, who is in Cairo with the Rising Stars, has shed light on why he thinks Rising Stars can fulfil their World Cup dream in Cairo.
"This age bracket is a prime one for a player, and many professional clubs opt for players when they are growing up, so this is the right time for our boys to showcase what they are blessed with," said Mariga, as quoted by Citizen Digital.
Mariga has expressed confidence in the Rising Stars to give a good account of themselves on the continental stage.
Rising Stars Preparation
On their end, the Salim Babu-coached side are gearing up well for their maiden AFCON campaign.
The side faced Ghana in a friendly on Sunday, coming from behind to register a 2-2 draw.
This comes ahead of their opening clash against Morocco, poised for May 1.
Rising Stars will hope for a good showing in Cairo as they also eye a historic World Cup qualification by securing a semi-final spot.
