Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has reportedly returned to Barcelona’s radar as the club continues to look for solutions in the defensive midfield position.
The 28-year-old midfielder is currently employed by Leicester City and plays in the Championship; however, his contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and he is not expected to renew, according to reports.
Barcelona’s interest
Despite signing Oriol Romeu in the summer, the Blaugrana are reportedly still in search of a pivot.
They want a quality player in the position but are now said to have ruled out a move for two of their initial targets, Joshua Kimmich and Martin Zubimendi, as their finances cannot allow for the outlay required to make either move.
According to Sport, they are back in the market for cheap options and Ndidi, who is set to be available for free at the end of the season, has popped up on their radar.
Barcelona have previously held an interest in the Nigerian following Busquets’ exit, but they eventually opted for Romeu, who, despite a bright start, is struggling to make his mark at the club.
The Spanish champions will be able to start negotiations with him in January but will have to contest for his signature with the likes of Juventus and Sevilla, who are both rumoured to be keen.
