Boniface, Tella put Europa League heartbreak aside to complete domestic double with Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen and their Nigerian stars Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella have emerged victorious in the DFB-Pokal, completing a domestic double just 48 hours after suffering Europa League final heartbreak.
The Bundesliga outfit overcame a resilient Kaiserslautern side 1-0 in the cup final on Saturday evening, with Granit Xhaka's stunning first-half strike proving the difference.
Boniface and Tella move on as Leverkusen win DFB-Pokal
The win comes as a welcome boost for Leverkusen, who were left disappointed after losing the Europa League final to Atalanta, led by their compatriot Ademola Lookman.
Despite the Europa League final setback, Boniface and Tella were able to put the heartbreak aside and contribute to Leverkusen's domestic success.
The Nigerian duo started on the bench, but Tella made a second-half appearance as Leverkusen completed the game with 10 men following Ivorian defender Odilon Kossounou's dismissal.
Boniface, on the other hand, watched from the sidelines as Leverkusen became the first club to complete a Bundesliga season unbeaten, adding the DFB-Pokal title to their impressive campaign.
