CAF POTY Award - Osimhen hits back at fans who criticise him for not congratulating Lookman

Osimhen, who won the 2023 CAF POTY award, was dethroned yesterday by Lookman as the new winner for the 2024 CAF award.

Following his award presentation, it was reported that Osimhen failed to congratulate his fellow country teammate on social media.

Fans have criticised him for his attitude and the forward has had to reply to some of the internet critics.

Osimhen has disclosed that he texted Ademola Lookman a private message of congratulations on Monday night following his CAF Player of the Year victory.

Following a comment on X by AKINWOLE SAHEED BOLARINWA, he challenged Osimhen saying, “Alaye, won ni o ki lookman. Ki lo shele.”

Osimhen then responded to his comment, “Omo iya mi,moti drop congratulatory message lati ana... aje mi o paro 😂.”

The 25-year-old disclosed on Tuesday night that he had messaged Lookman privately on social media that evening.  

Meanwhile, Lookman became the seventh Nigerian player to win the CAF POTY Award after the likes of Kanu Nwankwo, Osimhen and other.
