Calvin Bassey: London club set to hijack Super Eagles defender from Brighton
Premier League side Fulham has joined the race for the signing of Nigeria Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey.
Fulham has made a move to hijack Bassey from fellow Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion, who also have the Ajax defender on their radar.
Pulse Sports Nigeria can confirm the transfer according to a report from the Athletic.
Fulham make Bassey move
According to the Athletic, the London club has officially made a bid for Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam.
Fulham has made an offer of 15 million pounds in writing to prise the 23-year-old away from Amsterdam.
Bassey, who moved from Scotland to the Netherlands last summer, has four years left on his current contract at Ajax which runs until the summer of 2027.
However, it seems he could be set to return to Britain and the Premier League after just 39 appearances for Ajax.
Dutch club, Ajax, are yet to respond to the latest offer on the table for their versatile Nigerian star, the report added.
Bassey’s background
The Super Eagles started his career at former Premier League side Leicester City, who suffered relegation to the Championship last season.
He came through the ranks at the Foxes before making the move to Ibrox to join Scottish giants Rangers.
He went on to make 65 appearances for the Gers, helping the club to their first Scottish League title in 10 years and a run to the Europa League final.
