Calvin Bassey: Super Eagles defender shuts Ajax up with debut goal for Fulham
It was a game of debutantes as Nigeria’s Calvin Bassey kicked off life at Fulham in a match-winning way.
Bassey earned his first start in a Fulham shirt as they defeated German club Hoffenheim 2-1 in a pre-season friendly.
The game was played at Craven Cottage, with Fulham running away with the win thanks to their summer signings Raul Jimenez and Bassey.
Bassey scores debut goal
Nigeria Super Eagles defender Bassey has sent a perfect message to his former club Ajax.
The 23-year-old has shown the Dutch side what they will be missing after scoring on his debut for the Premier League side.
After just a second in the Netherlands, the defender swapped the Eredivisie for the Premier League as reported by Pulse Sports.
Bassey has since agreed to a deal that will keep him with the team through the summer of 2027, although Fulham has the option to extend for an additional 12 months.
On Saturday, he was handed his debut and he celebrated by scoring the winner against Hoffenheim
After a goalless first half, it was fellow summer arrival, Jimene who opened the scoring before Hoffenheim equalised four minutes after going behind.
Nigeria’s Bassey sealed the win when he found space and time to head home the winner in the 73rd minute.
His first start and first goal were a perfect message to his ex, Ajax, who discarded him just a year after a record move from Scottish giants, Rangers.
