Chelsea sell Amougou

Mathis Amougou, who joined from Saint-Etienne in February €15m has returned to Ligue 1, signing for sister club Strasbourg on a five-year deal. 

While the transfer fee remains undisclosed, the club confirmed the 19-year-old’s transfer on Saturday.

“Mathis Amougou has left Chelsea and completed a permanent transfer to Ligue 1 club RC Strasbourg," Chelsea revealed.

“The France Under-20 international joined the Blues from Saint-Etienne in January and made his Premier League debut against Southampton the following month. 

“Amougou featured in our Conference League campaign and was part of the matchday squad for our triumph over Real Betis in the final in Wroclaw. 

“We wish Mathis every success as he begins a new chapter in his career.”

Meanwhile, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the West London side have a release clause included in the deal, although the figure was not stated.

The teenager made two appearances for Chelsea during his five-month stay in London, featuring against Southampton in the Premier League and Legia in the Conference League, with both fixtures coming off the bench. 

What’s next for Chelsea?

Chelsea are in Club World Cup final action against Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, seeking victory against the European champions.
