Fresh from her victorious WAFCON 2024 campaign with Nigeria’s Super Falcons, Esther Okoronkwo has returned to her Canadian club AFC Toronto amid great excitement and celebration.

Okoronkwo’s journey at WAFCON 2024 was nothing short of inspirational. Initially starting on the bench, the 27-year-old worked her way into the starting lineup, playing a pivotal role in Nigeria’s record-extending 10th title. 

With seven assists and two crucial goals throughout the tournament, her influence was undeniable. 

Most memorably, in the thrilling final against hosts Morocco, Esther was at the heart of the Falcons’ stunning comeback, directly involved in all three goals with a goal of her own and two assists to turn a 2-0 halftime deficit into an electrifying victory.

Her superb performance earned her the coveted MVP award for the final, a well-deserved personal accolade after a tournament filled with clutch moments and relentless determination.

Back in Toronto, AFC have enthusiastically embraced their champion. The club posted a heartfelt message: “Esther’s back. And she brought that champion energy with her.” 

Okoronkwo has already joined team training sessions, signaling that she is ready to boost the squad’s ambitions in the ongoing season.

Fans eager to see their WAFCON winner in action won’t have to wait long as AFC Toronto announced that Okoronkwo will take to the pitch at their next home game on Sunday, August 17, at BMO Field.
