Former Manchester United midfielder Anderson Luís de Abreu Oliveira, popularly known as Anderson, has been sentenced to prison due to his failure to pay child support.

According to reports, the 36-year-old Brazilian ex-footballer has just 30 days to settle his staggering debt of ₦94.5 million (£45,000) or face incarceration.

The sentence, handed down by a judge in Porto Alegre, Brazil, mandates a semi-open prison arrangement.

According to Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, Anderson will have the opportunity to work and study during the day but must return to the penitentiary each night,

The latest child support scandal isn’t the first of the former Premier League star’s legal troubles.

The former Golden Boy winner, who retired at the young age of 31 after his stint with Adana Demirspor in Turkey, had earlier been embroiled in serious legal issues having been embroiled in serious allegations of laundering and defrauding nearly ₦10.5 billion (£5 million) through an illicit cryptocurrency network.

Additionally, Anderson faced accusations of theft, criminal organization, and money laundering from the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the State of Rio Grande.
