According to a report by Expressand Star, the referee will officiate in the English second division this weekend.

Wolves and Newcastle were tied at 1-1 before Taylor awarded the Magpies a bizarre penalty against Hwang Hee-chan for a foul on defender, Fabian Schar.

The away side converted calmly to take a 2-1 lead before Wolves forced a share of the spoils with an equaliser thanks to  Hwang.

Wolves manager, Gary O’Neil described the decision as ‘scandalous’ after his side overcame the disappointment to earn a point.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe also agreed that it was a debatable call from Taylor.

Per the Star, while the Referee Association, PGMOL, has not apologised to Wolves, they have quickly acted by demoting the referee to the Championship.

Taylor is expected to handle the game between Preston and Coventry City slated for Saturday in what would be the first time he has officiated in the second tier since 2019.

The move to the Championship offers Taylor a fresh start, a chance to fine-tune his skills, and an opportunity to rebuild his reputation.

Mourinho had a heated moment with Taylor against Sevilla in the Europa League final last season.

Taylor’s demotion has caused quite a buzz on social media as fans appear to be in agreement with the decision.

These fans believe that the move is a win-win for everyone involved and have taken to social media to express their thoughts on Taylor, who, however, will be the VAR for the game between Fulham and Manchester United.
