Gor Mahia head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno has expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance in their goalless draw against Kakamega Homeboyz at the Mumias Sports Complex on Sunday in the FKF Premier League.

In a tightly contested affair, Gor Mahia struggled to create clear-cut opportunities, while the hosts came closer to breaking the deadlock.

Pius Wangi twice hit the woodwork—first in the 20th minute with a powerful strike that beat goalkeeper Kevin Omondi, and again at the hour mark in a moment that epitomized Homeboyz's misfortune.

Despite the nervy encounter, Otieno was content with the result. Speaking to Azam TV after the match, he commended his players’ defensive effort.

“I think one point away from home is good. This has always been a difficult pitch,” Otieno said.

“We defended well against their threats, especially the high balls and crosses. The boys played very well in those situations, so we’re happy with the one point and now focus on the next game.”

Otieno acknowledged Gor Mahia’s missed opportunities but remained optimistic.

“Even though we had some chances in front of goal, we didn’t utilize them. That’s not unusual when playing away because chances are rare. It’s about making the most of those few opportunities. But all in all, that is football.”

The result reflects a mixed run of form for the defending champions since resuming league action. They suffered a 2-1 loss to Tusker FC in a top-of-the-table clash but rebounded with a 2-0 win over Sofapaka before Sunday’s draw.

Gor Mahia now sit third in the standings with 28 points, trailing league leaders Kenya Police FC and second-placed Tusker, who are tied on 36 points but separated by goal difference.

With the title race heating up, Gor Mahia will look to build on Sunday’s defensive resilience as they prepare for their next fixtures.
