Guardiola is a well-known basketball fan. He's stated that the sport plays "a huge role in his life," while also congratulating his friend Joe Mazzulla on his contract extension with the Boston Celtics.
According to Marc Stein, Guardiola was asked who his favorite basketball players are in the post-Jordan era. He didn't hesitate, rattling off three names immediately.
"Steph Curry, Luka Dončić, and LeBron James," Guardiola stated.
Pep Navigates Personal Turmoil
The Spanish coach has also been in the news recently for off-field matters, specifically his divorce from Cristina Serra after 30 years of marriage.
British tabloids report that the relationship between Pep and Cristina deteriorated sharply during the divorce proceedings, with sources claiming there's "no going back."
Guardiola and Serra were together for 30 years and married in 2014. Things reportedly haven't been working between them for some time, allegedly due to "different lifestyles." Serra never settled in Manchester and returned to Barcelona five years ago to develop her own business.
Despite his wife not being in England, Guardiola extended his contract with City until 2027. This was reportedly the final straw, as Cristina wanted Pep to dedicate more time to their family. The Spanish coach tried to salvage the marriage and started visiting Barcelona more frequently, but it apparently wasn't enough.
As always, fans have been quick to speculate that marital problems are the cause of Guardiola and City's recent dip in form.
There might be some truth to that. After all, Guardiola has already announced that he will leave City when his contract expires in 2027 because, as he says, he "needs to focus more on himself."
