Nkunku's arrival at Chelsea in 2023, was hindered by injuries. He was expected to be the star of the team alongside Cole Palmer, but despite scoring six goals, he's found himself largely confined to the bench, with most of his appearances coming in cup competitions.

Maresca revealed that Nkunku's versatility has contributed to the problems.

"We had to adapt players, so we moved him to striker, knowing that he isn't a number 9," he explained.

There are rumours that the France international may be seeking an exit soon as there seems to be no real position for him, especially with Nicolas Jackson's form and the club's pursuit of another striker.

It remains to be seen whether the 26-year-old can force his way back into the team.
