Eric Chelle and the Super Eagles must win their FIFA WCQ vs Rwanda.

The Malian tactician, who faces his first competitive test since taking charge of the Eagles, said both players have earned the right to be considered after impressive outings at the Unity Cup against Jamaica in May.

What Chelle said

Chelle admitted that tough decisions will be made before kickoff.

“I have a plan in my head, I need to think about this game. Every player in this team can play at every moment – during the game, before the game, after the game,” he explained.

Nigeria are under pressure to secure all three points against Rwanda after a shaky start to their qualifying campaign. Chelle insists he has “sketched out” his game plan and will pick a lineup capable of delivering.

“We need to think about our starters for tomorrow and this is why we spoke together with the players,” the coach added.

Agu and Fredrick made their senior Nigeria debuts during the friendly clash with Jamaica, and Chelle revealed that their displays convinced him they are ready for bigger challenges.

“It would not be a surprise if the likes of Felix Agu and Benjamin Fredrick are seen in the lineup,” Chelle said at his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“They deserve to be here, they deserve to play this game and, like the captain said, this is an honour for them.”

However, both players face stiff competition for starting roles in a squad brimming with experienced defenders.

Agu will have to battle Ola Aina, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Bruno Onyemaechi for a slot at fullback, while Fredrick plays in the same central defensive role as William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey, and Chigozie Awaziem.

With World Cup qualification at stake, Super Eagles fans will be eager to see whether Agu and Fredrick get their chance to shine on Saturday.
