I spoke with my wife — Bruno Fernandes reveals why he rejected Al Hilal for Man United stay
Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has explained the reason he turned down Al Hilal's mouthwatering offer to remain at Old Trafford.
Bruno rejects Saudi
As Pulse Sports reported, Bruno Fernandes had been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in recent weeks, with Al Hilal offering a hefty salary to try and convince him to join.
Bruno resisted offers last summer to continue at the club; however, after a 15th-place finish with Manchester United this season, Al Hilal hoped they could tempt him, reportedly offering around £65m each season.
However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Fernandes has rejected Al Hilal's proposal as he wants to continue playing football in Europe.
What Bruno said
The 30-year-old midfielder is currently on international duty with Portugal as they prepare for a UEFA Nations League semi-final clash against Germany.
During the pre-match press conference for the game, Bruno was asked why he rejected the Blue Waves, and he had the following to say, “There was an opportunity. The president called me and asked if I wanted to go there. They were waiting for me.
“I spoke to coach Amorim. He asked me not to go. Manchester United didn’t want to sell me. They don’t need the money. If I had wanted to leave, they would have made it happen.
“Al Hilal were very kind. They spoke to my agent. Then I spoke to my wife. She asked, What do you want to do? She always supports my decisions. It would have been easy to move there.
“I know the Portuguese players there very well. But I want to play at the highest level and compete for major titles. I can do that, and I still want to. I’m very passionate about football.”
