‘If he’s not hungry, leave him’ - Sacchi urges Milan to abandon Hojlund pursuit
AC Milan legend Arrigo Sacchi has urged the club to walk away from negotiations for Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund if the player is not fully committed to joining the Rossoneri.
Milan and United have been in talks over a potential season-long loan for the 22-year-old, with an option to buy next summer.
However, Hojlund has reportedly resisted the move, insisting he wants to fight for his place at Old Trafford, despite United no longer considering him part of their long-term plans.
The Danish forward struggled to make an impact last season, scoring only four Premier League goals and 10 in all competitions across 52 appearances.
United have since strengthened their attack with the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko.
What Sacchi said
Sacchi, speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, warned Milan not to waste time on a player lacking the passion to wear their shirt.
“If he prefers to sit on the bench or in the stands at Old Trafford rather than start for AC Milan, then the Rossoneri should leave him. Milan must be loved; it can’t be a second choice,” Sacchi said.
He added, “The first quality required is reliability, then comes everything else. Without fire inside, he should stay home.”
The former Milan coach also questioned the hype around Hojlund, “We’re not talking about Van Basten here, he’s a decent player, nothing more. If Milan calls you, you should be on the first plane to Malpensa. The club comes first, then the player.
“If he’s hesitant, no problem, Milan should move on to someone who truly wants to wear the shirt,” Sacchi added.
Despite the doubts, Milan director Igli Tare remains in England monitoring the situation. United are eager to offload Hojlund, but the final decision rests with the player.
