Adesanya's disclosure precedes any official confirmation from the organization or Dana White. An announcement on the championship bout is anticipated in the next few days.

Before du Plessis suffered a leg injury during training camp and missed the UFC 293 event in Sydney, the two looked to be ready to face off in the cage last year.

This allowed Sean Strickland to pull off a massive upset and win the title from Adesanya.

With the division in disarray, du Plessis would finally have his chance to win the title he had previously won.

He wasted no time in dispatching Strickland in January, paving the way for a matchup with the sensational New Zealander known as "Stylebender."

On August 18, Adesanya and du Plessis will finally face off, bringing a lot of anger to the cage for what looks to be a huge pay-per-view match.

Whittaker will most likely face the winner of the middleweight title fight later this year, if the Australian superstar can get past Ikram Aliskerov, who presents a difficult obstacle.
