Brentford striker Ivan Toney is reportedly willing to let his contract expire next summer if a move to a bigger club does not materialise this transfer window.

Despite a dry spell at the end of last season, Toney boasts a solid record with Brentford, amassing 72 goals and 23 assists in 141 appearances since joining in 2020.

He also impressed in England cameos at Euro 2024, notably setting up Harry Kane's winner against Slovakia in the round of 16 and scoring a penalty in the shootout success against Switzerland in the quarter-finals.

Toney’s transfer options

Toney was linked with a transfer away in January after a betting ban, but a move never materialised and the striker now has less than 12 months left on his current contract with the West London club.

According to talkSPORT, Toney is prepared to run down his contract if a desired transfer does not happen this summer. Arsenal have been linked with a transfer for the 28-year-old and reportedly considered a £60m move but Mikel Arteta’s men have not made a formal bid.

With Harry Kane gone, Tottenham Hotspur could be in the market for a striker to fill the void left by the striker 12 months back, making them a potential destination.

West Ham United and clubs from the Saudi Pro League are also rumoured to be interested in the Brentford striker.

What comes next?

Further reports state that Brentford would prefer a sale this summer to recoup some transfer fee before his contract expires next year. However, the Bees will only let the striker go if a club offers a price that reflects his true worth in the market.

Brentford’s Premier League campaign begins against Crystal Palace at the Gtech Community Stadium on August 18.
