Iwobi’s Fulham qualify for next round following narrow win over League One side Wigan in FA Cup
After defeating Watford 4-1 in the FA Cup third round, the Cottagers advanced to the next round to face Wigan away from home.
However, they were able to grind out the result they needed, claiming a 2-1 victory over the League One side.
As it happened
Shaun Maloney made three changes to the Wigan side that drew 1-1 with Lincoln City in League One last weekend.
Marco Silva made 10 changes to the Fulham team that started last Saturday’s 2-1 win at Newcastle. New signing Willian was on the bench alongside Alex Iwobi, while Calvin Bassey did not make the squad.
The first half had a lot of attempts from Fulham but could only get a goal scored by Rodrigo Muniz before the halftime break.
Heading into the second half, the host equalised through Jonny Smith’s goal to restore parity, but the lead did not last long as Muniz gave the visitors the lead five minutes later.
Fulham held on until the final whistle despite the pressure from the home side and sealed a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
