Twente supporters allegedly used racist shouts from the stadium to target Lazio's Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and his colleague Loum Tchaouna.

Although Lazio went on to win the game 2-0, the incident led to a series of investigations by UEFA.

UEFA fines Twente

UEFA have decided on the punishment to be given to Twente after the racial incident that happened in their Europa League clash with Twente.

The statement from Twente reads, “This is one of the punishments FC Twente received following the behaviour of supporters during the European match against SS Lazio. 

“This morning it was announced that following racist and discriminatory statements, part of the Vak-P stand must remain closed. UEFA has designated sections 103 to 106 as part of the stand that must remain empty.”

For Twente's upcoming Europa League home game, the regulatory board UEFA decided to partially close Grolsch Veste Stadium, which will have an impact on the 2,000 seats in the West Stand behind the goal.

In addition to the partial shutdown, UEFA's disciplinary authority fined the team €40,000 for racist shouts, €10,000 for an illegal banner, and €33,125 for item hurling during the game.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian midfielder Dele Bashiru is set to be out of action for his club due to an injury, with no specific time given for his return.
