Liverpool are reportedly one of several clubs who have been informed of a potential asking price for Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins

The 29-year-old has become a key figure for Villa since his arrival in 2020, scoring 86 goals in 217 appearances in all competitions.

Watkins’ 86th goal was followed by his 41st assist in Villa's impressive 4-1 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday evening.

However, following that match, the England international publicly expressed his frustration at being omitted from the starting lineups for both legs of Villa's recent Champions League quarter-final tie against Paris Saint-Germain.

While manager Unai Emery suggested he would view any anger from Watkins regarding team selection positively, it has inevitably raised questions about the player's long-term future at the club.

Aston Villa’s reported Watkins asking price revealed

According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are not entirely opposed to selling Watkins, particularly if they can secure the permanent signing of Marcus Rashford for a lower transfer fee.

The Manchester United loanee started both games against PSG, and Villa have an option to purchase him for £40 million at the end of the current season.

The report indicates that Villa would consider selling Watkins this summer if they receive an offer in the region of £50 million to £60 million.

Club officials reportedly believe such a sale would represent "good business," especially given the expected interest from several Premier League teams in acquiring Watkins's signature.

Despite Watkins never publicly stating a desire to leave Villa due to Emery's squad rotation, he is at a stage in his career where he will likely feel he is in his prime and should be considered a guaranteed starter.

With Darwin Nunez potentially departing the club this summer, the Reds are expected to be in the market for a new number nine.

Arsenal are also likely to be monitoring Watkins's situation closely. The Villa man is a boyhood Arsenal supporter and is familiar with living in London from his time playing for Brentford.

According to reports, Liverpool and Arsenal are likely to be at the forefront of the potential suitors for Watkins, particularly as both clubs can offer Champions League football.

What next for Liverpool?

Liverpool could claim the title this week if Arsenal drop points against Crystal Palace.

If Mikel Arteta’s men beat Palace, then Arne Slot’s side could clinch the crown with success over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
