Despite drawing the ire of supporters, the former PSV winger will leave Stamford Bridge for the Emirates this summer, having joined the Blues in the winter of 2023.

With some fans fearing that his signing could indirectly affect Ethan Nwaneri’s future in North London, especially after Chelsea were linked, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the 18-year-old is close to agreeing to a new deal to stay with Mikel Arteta’s side.

The 18-year-old, entering his final contract year in 2025-26, is expected to stay, with the Gunners confident he will reject other offers.

The club have reportedly discussed first-team assurances with the teenager, which was previously a sticking point.

Nwaneri had a breakout season in 2024-25, scoring nine goals and two assists in 37 games for the North London giants in the 2024-25 season, thriving during Bukayo Saka’s layoff and Martin Odegaard’s extended dip in form.

Nevertheless, questions will persist about how and where the teenager fits if Madueke arrives this summer.

What’s next for Arsenal?

Arsenal are back in pre-season training as they seek to mount a sustainable Premier League challenge in 2025-26.
