The game started in the worst possible way for City, with Sammie Szmodics running behind to slot past Ederson after just 7 minutes.

That goal jolted the home side to life and after Savinho won a penalty, Erling Haaland stepped up to convert expertly.

The champions took the lead just two minutes later after Arijanet Muric's error gifted Kevin De Bruyne an open goal and the Belgian made no mistake.

A few minutes later, De Bruyne fed Haaland, who rounded Muric to fire home his second of the afternoon.

McKenna’s men were lucky not to concede a fourth with both Rico Lewis and De Bruyne cannoning efforts against the bar.

The second half was one-sided with City keeping possession and Haaland wrapped things up in added time with a fine finish to seal his 10th PL hat-trick.
