Man Utd transfer news: Champions League qualification key to signing Amorim’s ₦127bn target

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to make an offer to sign Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo if they qualify for the Champions League.

Despite a difficult season for the Red Devils, Ruben Amorim is understood to be a keen admirer of the Barcelona centre-back and views him as a key target for the summer transfer window.

United’s hopes of Champions League qualification via their Premier League finish are non-existent, with the Red Devils 15th in the top flight. 

However, winning the Europa League would secure their place in next season's competition, and the club are currently in a strong position in their semi-final tie.

Should Amorim’s secure Champions League football, reports in Spain via Football 365 suggest that Amorim wants Araujo as his priority summer signing. 

The report states that Hansi Flick’s seeming preference for Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi could open the door for Araujo's potential departure. 

The defender is said to fit Amorim's preferred playing style, possessing a strong physique, tactical awareness and a competitive nature.

United are reportedly willing to submit an offer exceeding €70 million for Araujo, recognising that Barcelona would be reluctant to sell him.

Amorim’s side host Athletic Club in their Europa League semi-final second leg on Thursday, favourites to make the final after securing a 3-0 success in Bilbao last week.
