Liverpool manager Arne Slot has given an update on Cody Gakpo's fitness ahead of their Premier League clash with Manchester City this weekend.

Gakpo missed the 2-2 draw at Aston Villa due to a knock he picked up in the Merseyside derby against Everton.

And it seems he's still not ready to return to action. Slot said in his press conference on Thursday: "Let's see, let's see. I hope. I'm not 100 per cent sure."

When asked about Gakpo's chances of playing against Manchester City, Slot added:

"He hasn't trained with the team yet, maybe he does a bit today, I don't know exactly. It will be a close call."

Gakpo has been a key player for Liverpool this season, contributing eight goals and three assists in 24 matches. His absence would be a big blow for the Reds.

To make matters worse, Liverpool will also be without defender Conor Bradley, who limped off with a hamstring injury against Aston Villa.

Bradley will undergo further assessment in the coming days, but he's expected to miss at least the next two games.
