Manchester Utd sign son and nephew of Cameroonian World Cup legends who has chosen to play for France
Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Enzo Kana-Biyik, an 18-year-old French youth international with deep Cameroonian football roots.
The young forward joins from Le Havre AC and will immediately head out on loan to Swiss outfit Lausanne-Sport for the 2025/26 season.
Red Devils secure legacy talent with rich World Cup history in his bloodline
Although he never made a senior appearance for Le Havre, Enzo Kana-Biyik had a promising campaign in their U19 setup, scoring nine goals in 18 appearances while showcasing the versatility to play across the front three.
Despite being born in France and recently representing the French U18 team, Enzo’s footballing pedigree has Cameroon written all over it. His father, André Kana-Biyik, was a towering figure in Cameroon's historic run at the 1990 FIFA World Cup.
André's brother, François Omam-Biyik, Enzo’s uncle, scored the legendary header that shocked defending champions Argentina in the tournament’s opening match.
Together, the Kana-Biyik brothers helped Cameroon reach the quarter-finals, setting an African benchmark still revered today.
André’s own World Cup journey was dramatic: sent off in the iconic win over Argentina and suspended twice in one tournament, a record that still stands.
Lausanne loan move sets the stage for next-gen prospect
Manchester United’s decision to sign and immediately loan him hints at long-term plans and the belief that he can develop into a top-tier attacker.
The move to Lausanne-Sport is expected to give Enzo crucial senior minutes in a competitive environment, something he narrowly missed at Le Havre despite being part of first-team matchday squads this past season.
Lausanne, known for nurturing youth talent, offers the 18-year-old a chance to build on his U19 form and gain experience in the Swiss top flight.
Enzo’s versatility, pace, and eye for goal have been well-documented at the youth level, and the club hopes that with regular football in Switzerland, he will return ready to push for a place in the Manchester United setup.
