Running against a formidable field of hurdlers, Russell took the race with brilliant form from the start and held on to the finish line to clinch the famous victory over in-form Tia Jones, who also clocked an outstanding new Personal Best (PB) of 12.19s for second, while Ackera Nugent was third in 12.34s.

With their jaw-dropping times, Russell and Jones dipped under the previous American Record of 12.20s set by Keni Harrison in 2012, and their marks are the second and third fastest legal marks in history behind Tobi Amusan's world record of 12.12s.
