Messi set to partake in ₦28 billion fortune as Argentina target historic Copa America title
Argentina could be set to rake in a reasonable amount if they overcome Colombia in addition to the immense pride and prestige of winning the world's oldest national team tournament.
Argentina vie for historic Copa America
The World Cup winners could be crowned the best team on the South American continent, for the second time in a row if they defeat Colombia in the final of the 2024 Copa America.
In addition to becoming the first team to successfully defend the Copa America title since Chile in 2016 and could also overtake Uruguay as the country with the most titles in the competition’s history if they win their 16th trophy against Colombia.
Copa America prize money explained
Whether Colombia or Argentina, the 2024 Copa America champion stands to gain a significant financial reward. The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) has allocated a total prize pool of $72 million for the 16 participating teams. Each team is guaranteed $2 million merely for competing, with the prize money increasing as teams advance through the tournament stages.
The distribution of prize money becomes increasingly lucrative as teams progress. Uruguay and Canada, the semifinal losers, were rewarded for reaching the third-place match. Uruguay, the winner of that match, took home $5 million, while Canada received $4 million.
For the final showdown, the stakes are even higher. The runner-up of the Copa America 2024 will be awarded $7 million, while the champion will secure a substantial $16 million windfall. This prize will be distributed among the players, coaching staff, and the national federation, meaning Lionel Messi and his teammates will share in this significant bonus to add to their historic achievement.
