Tensions boiled over at the Stade de la Beaujoire as frustrated Nantes fans attempted a pitch invasion during their 2-0 loss to Le Havre in Ligue 1.

Nigerian winger Moses Simon, who has been a standout performer this season, emerged unharmed as security forces swiftly intervened to prevent chaos.

The incident occurred during stoppage time of Nantes’ match against Le Havre, with fans expressing their dissatisfaction after a fourth consecutive league defeat left Nantes teetering in 16th place, a relegation playoff spot.

Riot police were deployed to halt the attempted pitch invasion and control the crowd after projectiles were thrown onto the field.

The match was interrupted for over 30 minutes as officials worked to restore order, and once the stands were mostly cleared, the final minutes of the game were played out.

Goals from Josue Casimir in the third minute and Steve Ngoura in the 74th sealed a comfortable victory for Le Havre, deepening the crisis for Nantes.

The Nigerian winger has contributed three goals and four assists in 11 matches for Nantes in Ligue 1 this season.

Remarkably, Simon has been involved in half of Nantes’ 14 league goals this campaign, and is arguably the most important player in the team at the moment.

Simon’s form has also translated to the national team, where he has provided three assists in five games for the Super Eagles despite not being a regular starter.
