Milan shocked Roma who had found it hard since the start of the season, defeating them 2-1 on the night.

Stefano Pioli's men scored the first goal of the game in the first half with Giroud converting from the penalty spot and getting the second goal early in the second half from a Rafael Leao acrobatic.

Roma tried coming back into the game but could only get a consolation through Leonardo Spinazzola's goal.

As it happened

Jose Mourinho made four changes to his Roma side that lost to Verona last weekend while Milan manager Stefano Pioli fielded the same eleven that defeated Torino at the San Siro stadium last weekend.

The game started with Milan creating the first chance of the game when Ruben Loftus-Cheek broke into the box and went over after a challenge from an opposition player, but the ref signalled NO penalty.

The referee Antonio Rapuano got a signal in his ear as he indicated he would check that earlier penalty claim by AC Milan using VAR.

After the review, the referee awarded a penalty to AC Milan and Olivier Giroud took the responsibility to score the first goal.

Olivier Giroud directed his penalty into the top left corner, past Rui Patricio giving Milan the lead.

The first half ended with both teams failing to create more chances as Milan went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

The second half started and Milan doubled their lead immediately after a lofted pass was launched into the box expertly and acrobatically dispatched into the net by Rafael Leao.

AC Milan were later reduced to ten men after Fikayo Tomori made a bad challenge and was given a second yellow card.

Roma got a consolation goal late on in the game as they struggled to break down a resilient AC Milan side.

Leonardo Spinazzola brilliantly slaloms his way forward past a few defenders and unleashes a shot from the edge of the box, which is deflected and goes into the back of the net.

Spinazzola’s goal was not enough to spark a comeback as the referee blew the final whistle, giving Milan a remarkable win.
