Nigeria Stars Abroad were busy across the world this past weekend, with Paul Onuachu continuing his phenomenal goal-scoring run in Turkey to cement his place as Nigeria's most prolific forward of the moment, while Fulham's Alex Iwobi wrote his name into Premier League history. 

Onuachu, the towering former Southampton striker, netted a crucial goal for Trabzonspor in their 2-1 victory over Rizespor, taking his Süper Lig tally to a remarkable eight goals in nine matches, a figure that now puts him ahead of the likes of Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman.

Onuachu’s goal was his fourth in as many matches, reaffirming his explosive resurgence in the Turkish top-flight after a challenging spell in England. 

In stark contrast, Osimhen only featured for 17 minutes in Galatasaray’s hard-fought 2-1 away win against Başakşehir, coming on as a late substitute. 

The former African Player of the Year, fresh off his WCQ heroics for Nigeria, was given limited playing time as Galatasaray managed the victory. Elsewhere, Ademola Lookman was in action for Atalanta, but was denied a goal in their match against Lazio in the Serie A.

The spotlight also shone brightly on Alex Iwobi, who became the Nigerian player with the most all-time Premier League appearances. 

When he started for Fulham in their match against his former club Arsenal, the attacking midfielder clocked his 299th Premier League appearance, officially surpassing the previous record of 298 held by Shola Ameobi (who featured for Newcastle United and Crystal Palace). 

While Iwobi's historic day was marred by a defeat to the Gunners, the 273 appearances made by legend Nwankwo Kanu now sit third on the list, showing Iwobi's impressive longevity and consistency in the world's most demanding league. Compatriot Calvin Bassey also featured for Fulham, coming on as a substitute.

The goals weren't restricted to Europe's major leagues. In Major League Soccer (MLS), Olatunji Victor emerged as the hero for Real Salt Lake, scoring a crucial brace in a 2-2 draw with St. Louis City on Decision Day, a result that secured his side a playoff spot. 

Also in the MLS, Alhassan Yusuf delivered a decisive performance for New England Revolution, netting a goal just 44 seconds into the game, the club's quickest of the season, and grabbing an assist in a 2-2 draw. 

Furthermore, in the Czech Republic, Rafiu Durosinmi continued his scoring spree for Viktoria Plzen, finding the net in a narrow win over Bohemians 1905 to hit double figures for the season.

The weekend's action provides a clear snapshot of the evolving Super Eagles landscape. Paul Onuachu’s incredible start to the season (eight goals in nine games) makes him an undeniable force, putting pressure on key strikers like Osimhen and Lookman. 

Iwobi's appearance record is a significant milestone, a reminder of Nigerian players' enduring impact in the Premier League as recognised by the league. 

With the next World Cup qualifiers on the horizon, the form of these forwards and the consistent presence of experienced players like Iwobi will be crucial for the Super Eagles’ success.

The focus will now shift to whether Onuachu can maintain his astonishing pace and if Osimhen will return to his dominant ways for Galatasaray. Iwobi, now in the record books, will be aiming to add goals and assists to his history-making career.
