Tensions are rising as the stage is set for a blockbuster semifinal clash at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2024.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have sent a confident message to their rivals, South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, signaling that they are ready for the high-stakes encounter.

South Africa earned their spot in the WAFCON semifinals after a nerve-wracking penalty shootout victory over Senegal.

With neither side able to break the deadlock in 90 minutes of regular time or extra time, the reigning champions Banyana Banyana held their nerve to win 4-1 in the shootout and secure their place in the last four in Morocco.

Nigeria's Super Falcons duo

Now, with the semifinal matchup confirmed, Nigeria is already turning up the heat, especially after their one-sided win against Zambia, another team from Southern Africa. 

On social media, the Super Falcons posted a clear and bold message to their South African challengers: “A familiar foe. A massive showdown. See you soon @Banyana_Banyana.”

In the last eight encounters between the two nations, it’s been a tightly contested affair with Nigeria winning four matches to South Africa’s three, with one draw.

Both Nigerians and South Africans across the continent are eagerly anticipating this epic showdown, which could shape the path to the championship.
