Boniface saw off competition from two other talented players to take home the coveted award.
Boniface’s form for Bayer
22-year-old striker, Boniface, has become a fan favourite at the BayArena following his arrival from Union Saint-Gilloise.
The talented Nigerian put pen to paper on a five-year contract that will see him stay at the Arena until the summer of 2028.
He has since transformed the Die Werkself attack with his incredible ability on and off the ball.
In his first three matches in the Bundesliga, Boniface scored four goals and assisted two more to help Leverkusen to a 100 per cent start to the season.
Boniface claims Rookie’s award
Following his form, he has now been awarded the Rookie of the Month for August.
He beat RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons and Noah Atubolu, Freiburg’s goalkeeper, to the elusive award.
“The 22-year-old, who joined from Belgian outfit Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, has displayed the power and desire that Die Werkself had previously been lacking,” Bundesliga said of Boniface on their official website.
Boniface, who is currently on international duty with Nigeria for the first time ever in his career, is also in the running for the Bundesliga Player of the Month award.
