Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has sparked concern over the Nigerian national team's accommodations in Rabat, Morocco, by sharing images that appear to show subpar conditions at the team hotel.

Iwobi, one of the first players to arrive at the Super Eagles' camp on Sunday, posted pictures on social media that have drawn significant attention to the state of the Rive Hotel. The team is preparing for a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff against Gabon.

The star-studded squad, including key players like Samuel Chukwueze, Calvin Bassey, William Troost-Ekong, and Wilfred Ndidi, is scheduled to begin full training on Monday. However, the images shared by Iwobi have raised questions about the standards of preparation and logistical planning for the team's international fixtures.

Other early arrivals to the camp included Moses Simon, Tolu Arokodare, and Olakunle Olusegun, alongside team officials.

What is at Stake for Nigeria in Morocco?

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has not yet released an official statement addressing the concerns. The incident has renewed public discussion surrounding player welfare and the organisation of the national team's assignments.

It follows another incident in March this year when the Super Eagles stars were shocked to learn that they would be sharing a bed at their team hotel before their World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Rwanda.

Nigeria secured their spot in this playoff round after a decisive 4-0 victory over Benin Republic in Uyo last month, which saw them finish second in Group C of the qualifiers.

The Super Eagles are set to face Gabon in the semi-final, with the winner progressing to a final against either DR Congo or Cameroon.

A victory in that decisive match would send Nigeria to the intercontinental playoffs in March 2026, where a spot at the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico will be at stake.
