Nigeria's Sports Minister Assures Fans: NFF to name new Super Eagles coach in two weeks
Nigeria’s Minister of Sports, Owan Enoh, has announced that a new coach of the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles will be appointed within the next two weeks.
Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that the Super Eagles have been without a coach following the departure of Jose Peseiro whose 22-month era ended after the AFCON 2023.

According to a post on social media by reliable photojournalist, Oganla, Enoh stated that the responsibility for selecting the new coach lies with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the governing body for football in the country.
However, the Minister went further to reveal that he has been in constant communication with the NFF regarding this crucial decision.
"The responsibility of getting a coach for the Super Eagles lies with the NFF and I have been in touch with the NFF," Enoh said.
"What I can assure is that a new Super Eagles coach will be announced in the next two weeks," the Minister added.
With the Super Eagles still without a coach ahead of major FIFA 2026 qualifiers, the Minister's statement comes on the heels of Nigeria's failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, a significant setback for the football-loving nation.
Enoh acknowledged the impact of this missed opportunity, stating, "The NFF knows what Nigeria lost missing out from the last World Cup, and the NFF is working hard."
The Minister emphasised the urgency of the situation. This suggests that the Nigerian government is closely involved in the process of selecting a new coach, underscoring the importance of restoring the Super Eagles' status as a formidable force in international football.
Nigerians are keenly awaiting the announcement of the new Super Eagles coach, hoping that this move will pave the way for the team's return to glory and secure their place in future World Cup competitions.
Nigerian legends Finidi George, the current interim boss, and Emmanuel Amuneke are two of the frontrunners for the coveted vacant position.
